Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

General  information

African Vaccines and Immunization Journal welcomes high-quality manuscripts that advance knowledge in vaccines, immunization systems, and vaccine-preventable diseases. Submissions should be original, scientifically rigorous, and relevant to vaccinology, immunization programs, health systems, and vaccine policy, particularly in African and low- and middle-income country contexts. Manuscripts submitted to the journal must not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Types of articles

African Vaccines and Immunization accepts several types of manuscripts that contribute to advancing knowledge and practice in vaccines and immunization.

  • Original Research Articles present new empirical findings from quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods studies related to vaccine science, immunology, epidemiology, immunization programs, health systems, and vaccine policy.
  • Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses synthesize existing evidence using rigorous and transparent methodologies to inform policy, practice, and future research in vaccinology and immunization.
  • Implementation and Operational Research Articles focus on practical challenges and solutions in delivering immunization programs, including studies on vaccine coverage, service delivery models, health system strengthening, and program evaluation.
  • Policy and Program Analyses examine vaccine policies, financing mechanisms, governance structures, and strategic approaches that influence immunization programs at national, regional, or global levels.
  • Short Communications or Brief Reports present concise findings from preliminary studies, innovative approaches, or emerging issues that are of immediate relevance to the field.
  • Case Studies and Field Reports document practical experiences from immunization programs, outbreak responses, or innovative interventions that provide lessons for public health practice.
  • Commentaries and Perspectives provide expert opinions, policy discussions, or reflections on emerging issues, challenges, and opportunities in vaccines and immunization.
  • Surveillance Reports and Data Notes present important surveillance findings, datasets, or descriptive analyses that contribute to monitoring vaccine-preventable diseases and immunization performance.
